- Scans and indexes documents into the electronic medical record system accurately and timely.
- Files loose paper records and assemble discharged patient charts.
- Maintains confidentiality of protected health information at all times.
- Supports the release of information team in processing authorized record requests.
- Responds to internal requests for chart access or information under direction of supervisor.
- Performs clerical duties such as faxing, mailing, and organizing charts.
- Participates in cross-training and professional development.
- Professional in appearance and communication; meets deadlines; takes accountability for work.
- Maintains respectful interactions with coworkers, clinicians, and patients.
- Demonstrates willingness to learn and grow in HIM practices.
- Communicates clearly with team members and leadership.
- Attends required trainings and meetings.
- Maintains compliance with HIPAA, hospital policies, and safety protocols.
- Contributes to a clean, organized, and secure records area.
- Prior HIM, clerical, or healthcare experience preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills required.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of or enrollment in a Health Information Technology or Medical Office program preferred.
