Job Summary
As an Assistant Editor at ESPNDeportes.com, you will play a critical role in the development and production of our sports content. You will be responsible for reviewing and editing content from a variety of sources, including wire services, partners, ESPN staff members, and experts. You will also be involved in planning and producing short- and long-term content projects, managing and tracking assignments from ESPN journalists, and collaborating with the Digital Video team to promote video content across our platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and edit content from various sources to determine how it fits into our daily news coverage and programming needs
- Assess all sports page copy and titles, provide feedback on all art and video, and package content in a compelling way to engage users
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of our content and audience usage patterns to inform content creation and distribution
- Collaborate with the Digital Video team to promote video content across our platforms
- Manage and track assignments from ESPN journalists and ensure timely delivery of content
- Work across multiple content and delivery platforms to develop top-to-bottom projects, feature packages, and daily content
- Utilize your knowledge of SEO principles to optimize content for online audiences
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, New Media, or a related field
- At least 1 year of experience working in the sports media environment
- Expert-level knowledge of at least one of Soccer, NFL, NBA, MLB, boxing, and MMA, including on-field expertise and knowledge of current trends and journalists covering the sport
- Strong understanding of and enthusiasm for news and story play
- Excellent title writing skills and a comprehension of website optimization
- Ability to work rapidly and juggle multiple tasks during an ordinary working day
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Spanish, both written and verbal, with strong knowledge of composition and conversation in English
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in online media content planning and production
- Ability to work in a fast-paced online environment with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with HTML and ability to learn quickly
- Experience working in a team environment and collaborating with others to achieve common goals
