Job Overview: Benefits Verification Representative

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced healthcare professional to join our national team as a Benefits Verification Representative. In this dynamic role, you will work closely with our Patient Intake Coordinators and insurance providers to verify coverage for in-home IV therapy for Coram's patients. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating a positive experience for our patients by verifying insurance coverage, performing benefit investigations, and obtaining prior authorization for both new and existing patients. Your excellent customer service skills will be essential in interacting with patients, healthcare professionals, and insurance carriers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify insurance coverage and perform benefit investigations to ensure timely processing of patient prescription orders
  • Obtain prior authorization for new and existing patients, demonstrating excellent customer service skills in interactions with patients, healthcare professionals, and insurance carriers
  • Develop a deep understanding of insurance carriers and concepts, including drug cards, major medical benefits, and per diem coverage
  • Familiarize yourself with government and patient assistance programs to provide comprehensive support to patients
  • Work independently and as part of a team to achieve departmental goals and objectives
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records, utilizing strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues

Essential Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Experience working in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Outlook, and Word, with strong computer skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and insurance carriers

Preferred Qualifications:

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Minimum one year of experience working in a healthcare environment, with knowledge of healthcare insurance and medical terminology
  • Experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party vendors, with prior direct customer service experience in the medical field
  • Epic experience, with a strong understanding of electronic health records and healthcare technology

Work Environment and Company Culture:

  • Monday - Friday, with hours between 7:30am-6pm CST
  • Mandatory overtime/extended work week when needed, as well as regular and predictable attendance
  • On-call scheduling based on departmental need, with preference given to later shift availability
