Disney's Media and Entertainment Distribution team is responsible for designing, building, and operating the media transport solutions, content origination services, workflow integration, and media orchestration across hybrid cloud environments for Disney's streaming services. Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality, scalable, and efficient solutions that enable the delivery of Disney's content to audiences around the world.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Systems Engineer II to join our Content Origination Services team. As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and sustaining the content delivery systems that support Disney's streaming services. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to gather business and functional requirements, analyze technical specifications, and develop scalable and efficient solutions. If you have a strong background in Linux systems administration, programming languages, and content delivery networks, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and configure content delivery systems, including planning, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale media workflows.
  • Lead business and functional requirements gathering, create detailed analysis, and write flexible technical solutions that are efficient, scalable, and extensible.
  • Develop proof-of-concept prototypes and create roadmaps that enable the execution of new products, features, and related technologies, as well as more efficient methods of delivering services due to changing business needs.
  • Design and implement service monitoring tools and metrics that identify and address performance issues and system bottlenecks before they impact media workflows and individual clients.
  • Provide support sustainment, operational and technical support through software/hardware upgrades, service monitoring, configuration optimization, and interoperability with third-party, vendor-provided solutions and products.
  • Engage and collaborate with technical and non-technical colleagues while providing insight into emerging technologies, models, and philosophies that meet business targets.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule in case of an emergency.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Electrical or Hardware Engineering, or equivalent field of study.
  • 3+ years of Linux systems administration experience.
  • Experience with GitLab and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Salt).
  • Ability to analyze hardware deficiencies and performance bottlenecks on compute (baremetal, VM) and storage platforms.
  • Knowledge of DNS and experience with load-balancing and networking strategies (e.g., Anycast, HTTP, ECMP).
  • Strong proficiency with at least one interpreted (e.g., Perl, Python) or compiled (e.g., Go, Rust) language.
  • Demonstrates drive and ability to maintain efficiency with minimal administrative oversight.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in multi-platform, multi-region environments.
  • Previous experience with HTTP content delivery and configuration development on the platform level.
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies.
  • Experience with datacenter hardware and storage.
