Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced tutor to join our TRiO Upward Bound program, which provides academic support and guidance to high school students from low-income backgrounds. As a tutor, you will work closely with students to develop their comprehension of subject coursework, improve their study skills and habits, and enhance their overall academic performance. This is a part-time, temporary position that requires a minimum of 19.5 hours per week, with the possibility of working weekends.

Key Responsibilities

* Assist students in developing comprehension of subject coursework, including math, science, and writing/language arts

• Provide students with effective study skills and habits to increase their academic success and independence
• Encourage and support students in areas of self-confidence, study habits, and time management
• Report any problems or concerns with equipment or materials to the Learning Center Personnel
• Establish effective and cooperative relationships with diverse student and employee populations
• Tutor students in a virtual environment and in person, using a variety of instructional materials and resources

Essential Qualifications

* High School Diploma or GED

• Proven classroom excellence (grade A or B) in the subject(s) to be tutored
• Excellent communication skills (both virtual and in-person)
• Ability to complete CRLA level 1 certification within one year of employment

Preferred Qualifications

* TRiO Alumni Tutoring Experience

• Experience working with minors in high school
• Experience tutoring multiple subjects
• Bilingual in Spanish and English

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a virtual environment and in person
