Head of Engineering

What you'll do:

⭐ Hire, lead, and mentor engineering managers, fostering a high-performance, results-driven culture.

⭐ Define and drive engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and company vision.

⭐ Make high-level system design and architecture decisions, particularly in our serverless, accounting, and cloud services.

⭐ Develop and enforce best practices for modular design, microservices architecture, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).

⭐ Optimize infrastructure and DevOps processes, ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency in AWS (Lambda, SQS/SNS, RDS, S3, IAM, etc.).

⭐ Oversee API design and development, ensuring security, scalability, and maintainability.

⭐ Champion security and compliance, implementing best practices for API security, encryption, authentication, and governance.

⭐ Drive CI/CD automation and deployment efficiency, reducing friction in release cycles.

⭐ Own engineering culture and decision-making, ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment with company values.

⭐ Collaborate with product and business teams, ensuring engineering priorities contribute to business growth.

⭐ Evaluate build vs. buy decisions, optimizing engineering efforts and costs.

⭐ Establish career development paths, providing mentorship and growth opportunities for engineers.

Who you are

⭐ 5+ years experience as an senior engineering manager, head of engineering, or director level role leading 2 or more teams.

⭐ Ability to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements.

⭐ Strong proficiency in JavaScript, with TypeScript experience preferred. Familiarity with newer ECMAScript specifications.

⭐ Solid understanding of React (with hooks), Node.js (Koa or Express), and PostgreSQL.

⭐ Strong architectural skills, including an understanding of modular design, microservices, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).

⭐ Experience in designing and implementing RESTful and WebSocket APIs.

⭐ Proficient understanding of HTTP and its core principles.

⭐ Knowledge of security principles, including API security, encryption, and authentication.

⭐ Proficiency with Linux command line tools

⭐ Familiarity with version control systems like Git, including branching strategies, feature toggles, and CI/CD principles.

⭐ Experience with cloud services (preferably AWS), including Lambda, SQS/SNS, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, EC2, and API Gateway.

⭐ Strong knowledge of unit testing, end-to-end testing, and Test-Driven Development (TDD) principles.
