Job Overview

We are expanding our online offerings and are looking for skilled and dedicated tutors who can teach a range of subjects and grades. As an Online Work From Home Tutor, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere, with a schedule that fits your needs and availability. This is a part-time position, with hours ranging from 2-16 hours per week, depending on your availability and how much you want to work. You will have the opportunity to work with students in a one-on-one setting, delivering personalized instruction and support to help them achieve their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet students and initiate instruction to personally engage each student
• Instruct students according to the design of the Sylvan programs, using pre-made and assigned lessons
• Manage students, tasks, and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session, working at a 3:1 ratio with direct instruction delivered 1:1
• Evaluate and record the progress of each student on their program assignment, using praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn
• Motivate students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements, and record and track tokens earned by students
• Manage the conclusion of each instructional session, and support procedures to ensure student safety and well-being
• Communicate specific student needs to Center staff, and attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A four-year degree or equivalent in a relevant field, such as education or a related subject area
• State or provincial teaching credentials (preferred)
• Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension (preferred for reading teachers)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible, with strong problem-solving and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:

• Experience working with students in a tutoring or teaching setting, particularly in an online environment
• Familiarity with the Sylvan programs and instructional methods
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to student-centered learning
