Job Summary:

As a Specialized Health Paraprofessional at Wayne RESA, you will be responsible for providing essential physical and educational support to students with diverse needs. This is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students, working in a collaborative and supportive environment. Your primary responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing specialized physical health care services, including:
  • Suctioning and blood sugar testing
  • Medication administration and drip and tube feeding administration
  • Changing diapers and other specialized services
• Operating specialized medical equipment and instruments for assessment and treatment
• Responding to emergencies and evaluating student conditions
• Providing health instruction and care as needed
• Assisting with basic instructional tasks in the classroom or on field trips
• Working with students individually or in small groups, tutoring, and reinforcing lesson plans
• Assisting teachers with maintaining an attractive and stimulating classroom environment
• Supporting students with personal hygiene, good grooming, and manners
• Collaborating with teachers to devise special strategies for reinforcing material or skills
• Maintaining confidentiality and high levels of ethical behavior

Requirements and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Essential Qualifications:

• Associate's Degree or higher, or Workkey's Proficiency Certificate for Teacher's Assistants
• Formal State or local academic assessment demonstrating knowledge and ability to assist in instructing
• Knowledge of special education programs and procedures
• Ability to take direction from School Nurses and Directors of Special Education
• Proficiency in operating modern office equipment, personal computers, and related software
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with students with diverse needs
• Certification in a related field (e.g., nursing, education)
• Bilingual or multilingual skills
