Job Overview

As a Part-time School Bus Driver, you will play a critical role in providing safe and efficient transportation for our students on assigned routes. You will be responsible for operating a school bus in compliance with all Federal and State DOT requirements, maintaining student order and discipline, and performing pre and post-trip vehicle inspections. You will also be required to communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and administrators, and maintain accurate records and logs as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate a school bus in compliance with all Federal and State DOT requirements
• Maintain student order and discipline in accordance with departmental and district guidelines and policies
• Perform pre and post-trip vehicle inspections as set forth in the PA Motor Vehicle Code
• Follow assigned routes and notify the Department Router and Fleet Manager of any deviations, changes, or unsafe conditions
• Maintain a complete and legible route book and complete monthly mileage logs with accuracy
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and administrators
• Maintain accurate records and logs as required, including time sheets and vehicle repair requests
• Attend all in-service training meetings as required by the district and/or department
• Abide by all district and departmental policies and regulations as written

Essential Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, you must have:

• A High School Diploma or Equivalent
• A valid Pennsylvania CDL Driver's license with School Bus and Air Brake endorsement (or be willing to obtain)
• A minimum of three years of accident/violation-free driving history
• No record of DUI or felony while operating a motor vehicle
• A clear criminal record as set forth in PA Act 34 or Act 151
• The ability to pass an annual school bus driver's physical as set forth in the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code
• Physical ability to render aid to students in the event of an accident or emergency
• The ability to read and speak English

Preferred Qualifications:

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

• Previous experience as a school bus driver
• Knowledge of Federal and State DOT regulations
• Experience working with students with special needs
• Bilingual or multilingual skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance
• Ability to maintain accurate records and logs
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the job, including lifting, carrying, and pushing
