Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Special Education Preschool Paraeducator to join our team of dedicated educators. As a Special Education Preschool Paraeducator, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and personal growth of our students with special needs. This is a part-time position, working 20 hours per week, with a competitive starting salary of $22.97 per hour. Key Responsibilities

  • Presents material and activities to improve skills in assigned areas, such as reading, writing, math, computers, and/or vocational education
  • Works individually or in small groups with students to provide instructional support and guidance
  • Records grades and other measures of students' progress and behavior
  • Provides instructional assistance in assigned areas, such as preparing lesson plans and materials
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and staff to ensure a collaborative and supportive learning environment
  • Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion
  • Operates a personal computer and related software to support instructional activities
  • Maintains effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents to ensure a positive and productive learning environment

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Some prior experience working with school-age children preferred
  • CPR, first aid, and district-approved behavior management techniques may be required
  • Valid Alaska driver's license required
  • Must have either an AA degree, or 48 semester hours, or be willing to take and pass the ParaPro Assessment (support available)
  • Knowledge of files and record keeping, personal computers and related software, and school-age children's behavior
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, provide instructional assistance, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following preferred qualifications will be highly regarded:

  • Experience working with students with special needs
  • Knowledge of behavior modification techniques and strategies
  • Ability to speak multiple languages
  • Experience working in a team environment and collaborating with colleagues
