Key Responsibilities

As a Student Development Specialist IV, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and personal development of our students. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating major Student Affairs programs and events, such as orientation, white coat ceremony, awards ceremony, and commencement.
  • Securing venues and vendors, managing contract negotiations for large events, and overseeing the budget and expenditures for major programs and events.
  • Advising students on student-sponsored activities and providing individual and group advising, making referrals to resource providers as needed.
  • Serving as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration, and fostering collaborative relationships to support student success.
  • Interpreting and communicating student-related university and school policies and procedures to meet university and school requirements and guidelines.
  • Leading efforts focusing on leadership development, problem-solving, program/activity planning, facilitation, and assessment.
  • Supervising a Program Coordinator I, including hiring, training, facilitating meetings, preparing performance evaluations, and providing developmental feedback.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least five years of experience in student affairs or a related specialty area.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience in higher education or a professional school setting within student affairs or a related specialty area.
  • Event management and outreach experience.
  • Experience conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programming and activities.
  • Demonstrated professional maturity, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
  • CPR certification.
