The Role

As our new Director of Workplace IT, you'll be responsible for leading and growing our IT team, developing and executing our workplace IT strategy, and driving innovation and automation in our IT operations. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Security, and Finance, to ensure that our IT infrastructure is aligned with our business needs and goals. Your impact will be significant, driving productivity and connectivity across the company, and helping us to achieve our mission of creating a more inclusive and connected world.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead and grow an IT team: Manage a dedicated team of IT professionals to support Discord employees, providing guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for growth and development.

• Develop IT strategy: Plan and execute the Workplace IT strategy, creating policies and procedures that align with evolving business needs and goals.
• Automate and innovate: Identify and implement opportunities for automation in IT support, recommending new technologies and processes that improve efficiency and productivity.
• Foster cross-departmental relationships: Build key relationships with departments like Engineering, Security, Engineering Infrastructure, Finance, and Procurement, ensuring seamless collaboration and communication.
• Manage IT infrastructure and equipment: Oversee the maintenance and updating of hardware (laptops, networks, A/V systems) and manage IT vendors, ensuring that our IT infrastructure is secure, reliable, and up-to-date.
• Ensure IT risk management: Work with IT teams to address risks such as disaster recovery, data loss, and maintain proper access controls, ensuring that our IT infrastructure is secure and compliant with industry standards.
• Oversee helpdesk and software: Manage the IT helpdesk to ensure high-quality customer service, curating software and licenses that meet the needs of our employees.
• Handle budgeting and metrics: Draft the annual IT budget, assist in planning, and maintain metrics for continuous improvement and high user satisfaction.

What We're Looking For

* Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

• At least eight years in IT operations and three years in managing IT teams and projects.
• Strong focus on customer service with excellent presentation and training abilities.
• Proficient in computer systems, networks, security, telecommunications, A/V systems, databases, and storage; familiar with Discord's systems (Okta, Oracle, Workday, Zendesk).
• Able to work in a dynamic, startup environment and implement automation in IT support.
• Proven experience setting IT strategy, building complex metrics/analytics, and making data-driven recommendations.
• Skilled in using scripting languages like Python, Bash, and PowerShell for automation.
• Effective in managing tasks and projects, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and leading IT operations with a team-oriented approach.
