Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Cafeteria Assistant to join our team. As a Cafeteria Assistant, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to our students, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, and supporting the overall school nutrition program. Key Responsibilities

As a Cafeteria Assistant, you will be responsible for the following key duties and responsibilities:
  • Prepare nutritious and acceptable food to provide a pattern for healthy eating, improve student health, provide energy for optimal learning, and increase student participation in school nutrition.
  • Follow procedures to conserve nutrients when preparing and cooking.
  • Modify recipes to meet dietary guidelines.
  • Use standardized recipes, measuring or weighing ingredients as directed.
  • Follow sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Lift and move food preparation equipment and supplies frequently (25+ pounds).
  • Serve foods throughout each meal period that are attractive, palatable, and safe.
  • Monitor temperature of food on serving lines to ensure that no food approaches danger zone temperatures.
  • Portion food to meet nutritional needs of students and to fulfill regulations for fund reimbursement.
  • Implement a clean-up routine that will provide a sanitary and attractive work place that will maintain above 90% scores on health inspection and prevent transfer of bacteria to food.
  • Employ efficient work habits so that productivity is increased and all aspects of the job are completed within the allotted time.
  • Support the nutrition program and over-all school program as a team player to foster good communication between students, faculty, parents, and nutrition staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications:
  • Demonstrate ability to read and understand English as well as work simple math problems.
  • Minimum education level is a GED.
  • An official high school diploma or official GED certificate is required and must be submitted for documentation to be hired.
  • All Lowndes County Nutrition school-based personnel are required to meet initial specifications for national certification by the School Nutrition Association (SNA) and complete the certification by the end of the first twelve calendar months of employment.
  • Employees must subsequently complete annual educational recertification requirements to maintain SNA Certification.
  • Obtaining national certification and maintaining national certification, shall be a condition for continued employment.
