About GEICO – A Legacy of Innovation in Auto Insurance

GEICO has been a household name for more than seven decades, delivering affordable auto insurance to millions of drivers across the United States. As a proud subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, we combine the entrepreneurial spirit of a fast‑growing insurer with the financial stability of a world‑class conglomerate. Our mission is simple: provide quality coverage at the best possible price while delighting our customers with exceptional service. From clever advertising to cutting‑edge technology, GEICO continually redefines what it means to be a modern insurer. Our Auto Product Management organization sits at the heart of that transformation, shaping policies, pricing models, and risk‑management strategies that keep us ahead of the market.

Why This Role Is a Career‑Defining Opportunity

As an Insurance Product Management Analyst working in a hybrid setting (remote + three days a week in our vibrant Chevy Chase, MD office), you will be at the pulse of GEICO’s growth engine. You’ll translate massive data sets into actionable insights, influence product decisions, and directly impact profitability. This is more than a job; it’s a chance to build a reputation as a strategic thinker who can balance quantitative rigor with business acumen in a high‑impact environment.

Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do Every Day

  • Data Exploration & Risk Modeling: Design, develop, and validate statistical models that assess risk, predict claim likelihood, and forecast customer behavior.
  • Strategic Project Execution: Partner with senior product managers and cross‑functional teams to define project scope, set milestones, and deliver analytical solutions that drive growth and improve loss ratios.
  • SQL & SAS Querying: Extract, clean, and transform large‑scale datasets using SQL, SAS, Snowflake, or DBeaver, ensuring data integrity and consistency for downstream analysis.
  • Advanced Analytics & Visualization: Utilize R, Python, or similar languages to perform regression, clustering, time‑series, and predictive analytics, then communicate findings through compelling visual dashboards (Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
  • Performance Monitoring: Build and maintain monitoring plans for new product initiatives, measuring key performance indicators (KPIs) such as loss ratio, retention, and acquisition cost.
  • Agile Collaboration: Participate in Azure DevOps sprint cycles, capture user stories, and track deliverables in a fast‑paced, agile environment.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Prepare executive‑level presentations, story‑boards, and concise reports that translate complex data into clear business recommendations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify process inefficiencies, propose automation opportunities, and champion data‑driven culture throughout the Auto Product Management department.

Essential Qualifications – What You Must Bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Economics, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Insurance, or related field).
  • Analytical Expertise: Proven experience conducting statistical analysis, building predictive models, and managing large data sets.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong command of SQL and at least one programming language (R or Python) for data manipulation and analytics.
  • Data‑Visualization Skills: Ability to create clear, impactful visualizations that convey insights to non‑technical audiences.
  • Software Savvy: Advanced Excel (pivot tables, Power Query, VBA), PowerPoint, and Word proficiency.
  • Communication Excellence: Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with a talent for explaining technical concepts in plain language.
  • Problem‑Solving Mindset: Intellectual curiosity, a systematic approach to asking the right questions, and a passion for turning data into strategic action.
  • Hybrid Work Commitment: Ability to work on‑site in Chevy Chase, MD at least three days per week, within a commutable distance.

Preferred Qualifications – What Sets You Apart

  • Master’s degree or MBA in a quantitative or business discipline.
  • Professional insurance certifications (CPCU, AINS, ARM, etc.) or practical experience within the insurance industry.
  • Hands‑on experience with advanced data‑query tools such as SAS, Snowflake, or DBeaver.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, JIRA, or other agile project‑management platforms.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering analytics projects that directly influenced product strategy or profitability.

Core Skills & Competencies for Success

  • Critical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex problems, identify root causes, and devise data‑backed solutions.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working with analysts, product managers, underwriters, and senior leadership across functional borders.
  • Detail Orientation: Meticulous approach to data quality, documentation, and reproducibility of analytical work.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑changing environment, quickly learning new tools and adjusting priorities as business needs evolve.
