Health Information Management Lead

Overview

Summary/Objective: Primarily responsible for leading Confluent Health’s processes for releasing medical record information to our patients, insurance agents, health care institutions, attorneys, etc., in accordance with Federal and State laws. This role will onboard, oversee and manage any vendors engaged to release protected health information according to established policies and procedures. Drives consistent release of medical record information processes across all Confluent Health outpatient physical therapy locations. Assists with other compliance related functions within the compliance department as directed or needed. About Confluent Health: We believe in the power of meaningful work that impacts lives. Responsibilities

This is a remote position Pay $65,000-85,000 Essential Functions

  • Implement processes to ensure requests for protected health information from patients, family members, insurance companies, attorneys, court orders/subpoenas, physicians and/or their office staff, other health care facilities and other third parties are released in accordance with state and federal laws as well as Confluent Health policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with outpatient physical therapy partners to migrate existing health information management towards a consistent process.
  • Submits requests to medical records vendor for processing as needed.
  • Collaborates with appropriate functional departments and staff to investigate and resolve issues related to documents such as accounting for disclosures, record retention, etc.
  • Maintain an organized view of medical records stored across the organization.
  • Monitors key performance reports to ensure vendor accountability, compliance with HIPAA timelines for release of medical records and prompt resolution of deficiencies.
  • Attends all meetings with vendor to monitor volumes, turnaround times, and other key metrics to ensure vendor consistently meets established service levels.
  • Shares results from vendor reports with leadership.
  • Works collaboratively with vendors to ensure optimization of technical systems that support ROI operations and excellence in customer service.

  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.

Competency

  • Thorough knowledge of medical record release of information requirements; understanding of HIPAA; working knowledge of state and federal privacy regulations regarding release of medical information
  • Excellent organizational skills, project management and attention to detail
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate effectively in a courteous and confidential manner with providers, staff and visitors or patients.
  • Demonstrates excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Must have ability to adapt to a varied routine of office work with frequent interruptions.

Qualifications

Travel Limited travel may be required. Education and Experience

  • RHIT or RHIA certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Release of Information experience.
  • Experience working with vendors that perform medical record release of information duties.
