Job title: Museum Support Specialist (Data Entry/Transcription) Company: Syms Strategic Group Job description: Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Museum Support Specialist (Data Entry/Transcription) Location: Shepherdstown, WV Type: Full Time Min. Experience: Experienced Military Veterans are highly encouraged to apply! Essential Duties and Responsibilities Data Entry

  • Inventory documents, images, books, pamphlets, personal papers, and films that come into the USFWSMA.
  • Retrieve documents, images, books, and films for researchers.
  • Update and maintain databases of USFWSMA library collection, image collection, and film collection. This will be a daily responsibility involving the following database systems: Islandora (National Digital Library), Interior Collections Management System (ICMS), and Microsoft Excel.
  • Assist with museum tours. Transcription Services
  • Inventory oral history tapes that come into the NCTC Archives/Museum. Tapes will be inventoried upon receipt.
  • Download emailed oral histories and convert formats to.mp3 digital audio.
  • Transcribe, send out for review, and edit audio and video oral histories. There will be one month from transcription to on-line presence.
  • Make transcripts and selected oral histories available to FWS employees, researchers and the public.
  • As all tapes, transcription equipment, archival items, and proprietary databases are located at NCTC. Although this position is telework eligible, it cannot be done entirely remotely. Assist with the USFWSMA relevant training courses.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for course participant logistics.
  • Update and maintain the USFWSMA training records in the DOI Learning Management Systems such as DOI Learn.
  • Prepare and distribute course participant packages.
  • For on-site courses, coordinate logistics with NCTC's Scheduling and Event Management (SEM) Branch.
  • For off-site courses, assemble and ship course materials (travel to off-site course locations is not required. Required Skills and Experience
  • A bachelor's degree in either History, Biology, Museum Studies, or Environmental Studies/Sciences.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in document retrieval, database management and transcriptionist services. Professional Certifications
