Job Summary:

We're looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to oversee the development and maintenance of critical research engineering tools that accelerate the velocity, scalability, and reliability of our machine learning (ML) innovation. As a key member of our Research Engineering Agency, you'll collaborate closely with our Studies Managers to identify friction points, design and build engineering solutions, and improve the overall ML researcher experience. Key Responsibilities:

* Manage and mentor a team of senior and experienced engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence

• Develop and maintain the technical vision and roadmap for the ML Researcher Tooling team
• Balance competing priorities and stakeholder needs, ensuring seamless collaboration and communication across teams
• Collaborate with Studies Managers to identify areas for improvement and design engineering solutions that drive business value
• Develop and implement processes to improve the overall ML researcher experience, ensuring scalability, reliability, and velocity
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying knowledge to drive innovation and growth

Essential Qualifications:

* 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, with 2+ years of industry experience in a related field

• Strong software design and development skills in Python, Scala, Java, C++, or an equivalent production language
• Experience with parallel and distributed computing
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

* 4+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, with 10+ years of industry experience in a related field

• Proven experience leading a developer tooling team
• Experience running and customizing Bazel, or similar build systems (including Buck, Pants, and others)
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and others

Skills and Competencies:

* Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders
• Experience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems (e.g., Git)
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to drive results-oriented solutions
• Passion for machine learning, developer tools, and driving innovation
