Experienced Entry-Level Data Analyst – Retail Merchandising and Analytics

We're now looking for an experienced Entry-Level Data Analyst to join our Merchandise Planning Analytics team on a 6-month contract with the opportunity for extension or conversion.
About arenaflex's Merchandise Planning Analytics Team
arenaflex's Merchandise Planning Analytics team is a dynamic and fast-paced group that manages reporting, analysis, and tool building for the arenaflex Merchandising team. With a team of over 100 merchants and 40+ planners, we support the optimization of performance for arenaflex's Front End (non-Pharmacy) businesses. Our team is passionate about leveraging data and analytics to drive business decisions and drive growth.
Work Environment
As a Remote Analyst at arenaflex, you'll have the flexibility to work from anywhere in the Central Standard Time (CST) zone. Our team is fully remote, and we're committed to creating a collaborative and inclusive work environment that fosters open communication and teamwork. You'll work a standard 8am-5pm schedule with a one-hour lunch break from 12pm-1pm. While our hours are flexible, we require a minimum of 30 hours per week to fulfill business needs.
Responsibilities
As an Entry-Level Data Analyst, you'll be responsible for:
- Own Brand Reporting and Analysis: Own and manage reporting, recapping, tracking, and analysis for thousands of arenaflex's private label items, including ad-hoc analysis based on business needs.
- Item Level Historical Analysis and Recapping: Conduct item-level historical analysis and recapping to identify trends and patterns.
- Item Level Future Looking Forecast: Develop and maintain item-level future-looking forecasts to inform business decisions.
- Complex Excel Formulas and Data Synthesis: Utilize complex Excel formulas to synthesize large data sets into meaningful executive recaps.
- System/Tool Used: Work primarily in Microsoft Excel, with occasional use of other tools and software.
Top Must-Have Skills
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- Bachelor's Degree and Relevant Experience: A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., analytics, data science, finance, financial analysis, assortment planning, retail, procurement/purchasing, merchandising) and at least 3-5 years of experience in one or more of these fields.
- Data Analytics and Retail Merchandising Background: A strong understanding of retail merchandising basics, including category management and merchandising organization structures and processes.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, paired with storytelling finesse to communicate complex ideas to stakeholders.
- Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint Skills: Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data visualization. Strong communication skills in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Time Management and Prioritization: Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
- Stakeholder Management: Ability to develop effective working relationships with Merchandising, Planning, Finance, and other stakeholders.
- Retail Math Background: Retail math background, including item-level forecasting, demand patterns, sell-through, sales, profit goals, sales by type, and AUR impacts.
- Microsoft Excel Critical Skill: Intermediate to advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel, including SUM/SUMIFS, Subtotals, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, Macros, and Pivot tables.
Top Nice-to-Have Skills
While not required, the following skills are highly desirable:
- MBA or Quantitative Degree: MBA or a degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
- Data Science Experience: Experience in data science, including data modeling, machine learning, and statistical analysis.
- Retail Experience: Retail experience, including merchandising, planning, or analytics.
- SQL Coding and Macro Building: Intermediate level skill in SQL coding and macro building in Microsoft Access.
Education and Experience Requirements
To be considered for this role, you'll need:
- 3-5 Years of Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in analytics or data science, with a merchandising background.
- Bachelor's Degree: A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field.
