Job Summary
We're seeking an experienced and customer-focused Remote Part Time Customer Service Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Access Center, you'll be responsible for answering a high volume of inbound calls, navigating electronic health records, and providing exceptional customer service to patients, healthcare providers, and facilities. Responsibilities
As a Remote Part Time Customer Service Specialist, you'll be responsible for:
- Navigating the electronic health record to obtain and validate historical information, capturing and documenting demographic and financial information, and maintaining patient privacy and security as outlined by HIPAA.
- Managing a high volume of incoming calls from patients, healthcare providers, and facilities, ensuring resolution to the call and providing excellent customer service in a variety of situations.
- Leveraging critical thinking with speed and accuracy to identify the reason for the call and take appropriate action based on caller need and acuity, researching complex issues in the electronic health record, and consulting/escalating to clinical staff when necessary.
- Scheduling patient visits based on complex provider preferences, verifying and updating insurance, checking insurance eligibility, collecting and documenting demographics, and maintaining proficiency in and sharing knowledge of insurance basics, MyChart, and appointment instructions.
- Managing calls within established performance and customer service standards, achieving targeted abandoned call rate, average speed of answer, and average transaction time, and communicating directly with providers (physicians) to relay pertinent clinical information during after hours.
- Maintaining a constant state of alertness and working in a safe manner, as this is a safety-sensitive position.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- A High School Diploma or GED
- 2-5 years of recent healthcare or customer service experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and provide exceptional customer service in a variety of situations
- Proficiency in electronic health records and ability to navigate multiple job aids and resources
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on critical thinking and problem-solving
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple calls simultaneously
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in a customer service or access center role
- Familiarity with electronic health records and insurance basics
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
- Experience working in a remote or virtual environment
