Experienced Elearning Course Developer (Responsive Elearning)

Remote Full-time Live

About the Role

TorranceLearning is leading the design and development of a large, self-paced elearning curriculum for a critical Federal agency initiative. We’re seeking several experienced elearning course developers to join a cross-functional team of instructional designers, visual designers, and learning technology specialists. This is a high-volume, iterative build environment. You’ll primarily implement modules from build-ready storyboards, working through multiple rounds of review and revision while ensuring instructional intent, interaction behavior, accessibility, and technical details are reflected accurately in the final build. Note on tools: Development may occur in dominKnow Flow and/or another modern authoring platform. You must be comfortable learning new tools quickly and deliver builds that meet established quality and technical standards, regardless of the platform. Job Details

  • Pay rate: $55–65/hour (1099)
  • Weekly hours: ~15–35 hours depending on project phase and client response (hours are not guaranteed)
  • Location: Remote; all work must be completed within the United States
  • Collaboration hours: This project runs on Eastern Time business hours and requires daytime availability for real-time collaboration
  • Travel is not required; any client-required travel would be paid.
  • You must be able to secure Public Trust clearance prior to contract start.

How Delivery Works Work is delivered in waves using LLAMA® iterations: Skeleton → Alpha → Beta → Final.

  • Wave model: You’ll support Skeleton + Alpha design for one new module per wave, and lead Beta/Final development updates and reviews for prior modules. You can expect to work in parallel on several waves.
  • Client reviews: Formal review cycles occur at key phases; feedback may come from multiple reviewer groups.

What You’ll Do Build & Implementation (Core Output)

  • Build responsive elearning modules from build-ready storyboards (Word template), applying established build standards and templates consistently.
  • Implement layouts, interactions, branching logic, states, assessments, and completion rules as appropriate to the instructional need.
  • Make sound building decisions within template, tool, and accessibility constraints to ensure modules function reliably across devices.
  • Implement approved updates and revisions from internal and client reviews, ensuring changes do not introduce errors or inconsistencies.

Accessibility (Section 508 / WCAG)

  • Build modules to meet Section 508/WCAG 2.1 AA requirements and inclusive design expectations.
  • Check accessibility throughout development and support completion of the project’s accessibility checklist.
  • Partner with quality assurance (QA) and accessibility specialists to resolve issues efficiently and reduce late-cycle rework.

xAPI / SCORM Packaging

  • Implement xAPI tracking as specified, with support from the xAPI specialist team.
  • Produce SCORM exports/packages as required for delivery.

Media & Visual Implementation

  • Create simple visuals as needed (e.g., illustrations, icons, layouts), pull from approved asset libraries, and follow established visual standards.
  • Collaborate with visual designers (VD) on custom or complex assets.
  • Ensure media is optimized for accessibility and performance across device sizes, including mobile.

Collaboration, Reviews, and Quality

  • Collaborate with ID to assess the feasibility of proposed interactions, identify tool or template constraints early, and recommend adjustments that preserve instructional intent.
  • Participate in QA reviews of your own and peers’ work; provide constructive feedback and follow standards consistently.
  • Maintain clean build hygiene, including versioning, naming conventions, and organized source files in shared repositories.

Tools & Working Environment Microsoft Teams, Slack (collaboration); SharePoint (files and version control); spreadsheets and dominKnow review tool (reviews); elearning development platform: dominKnow Flow (primarily) or other modern authoring tools, depending on module needs or project phase; ClickUp (project management software). What You Bring Experience

  • 3+ years professional elearning development for adults in a workplace setting.
  • Experience building elearning with a mobile-first or responsive mindset, including consideration for layout, interaction behavior, and usability across devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to build elearning that meets Section 508/WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements.
  • Familiarity with SCORM packaging and xAPI concepts; comfort implementing tracking with specialist support.
  • Experience working within established templates, standards, and shared build patterns as part of the team-based development effort.
  • Experience working in an iterative/Agile instructional design environment (LLAMA® familiarity is a plus).

Skills

  • Experience using elearning authoring tools to build modules that include responsive layouts, varied and complex interactions, and assessments (e.g., dominKnow Flow, Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate).
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately translate a complete storyboard into a fully functional elearning module.
  • Strong attention to detail and a QA mindset (including proofreading, interaction testing, and consistency checks).
  • Ability to troubleshoot build issues and resolve technical problems independently or in collaboration with the team.
  • Solid visual layout and implementation skills, including consistent application of templates and visual standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative working style.
  • Strong self-management, prioritization, and reliability in a high-volume production environment.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility best practices (e.g., Section 508/WCAG 2.1 AA) as applied to elearning development

What Good Looks Like in This Role

  • Modules ready for handoff on time and required minimal rework.
  • Builds consistently follow established templates, accessibility requirements, and version control practices.
  • Interactions and assessments function reliably across devices, including on mobile.
  • Status, risks, and estimates are communicated early and clearly.
