Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Customer Service Specialist I to join our team in a full-time remote capacity. As a Customer Service Specialist I, you will play a vital role in handling and resolving incoming phone calls from patients, insurance carriers, and physician offices, ensuring timely and effective communication. Key Responsibilities

As a Customer Service Specialist I at arenaflex, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Handling a large volume of calls and performing work in a timely manner to ensure efficient resolution of customer inquiries and concerns
  • Attempting to collect full payment from patients or guarantors in a professional and courteous manner, establishing payment arrangements per guidelines and documenting terms in our billing system
  • Applying payments collected over the phone to each date of service, ensuring accurate and up-to-date patient and guarantor account information
  • Handling customer inquiries, disputes, and complaints in a empathetic and professional manner, escalating contentious complaints to supervisor or higher management as needed
  • Obtaining and updating insurance, demographic, and guarantor information, as well as billing third-party payers as appropriate
  • Clearly documenting in our system a summary of work and follow-up steps after each call, ensuring seamless communication and follow-through

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school graduate or GED certificate
  • A minimum of 6 months' experience in a physician billing or third-party payer environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of contracts, insurance benefits, exclusions, and other billing requirements, as well as claim forms, HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, Medicaid, and compliance program regulations
  • Ability to understand and navigate the payer adjudication process
  • Patient financial and practice management system experience in Epic and/or other electronic billing systems is preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred
  • Previous call center/claims experience is preferred
  • Previous experience in an academic healthcare setting is preferred

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience with patient financial and practice management systems, such as Epic
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare industry standards
  • Previous experience in a call center or claims environment, with a proven track record of providing exceptional customer service
  • Experience working in an academic healthcare setting, with a strong understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in this environment
