Overview

Treasury is responsible for the cash and investment management activities of the AARP enterprise. This includes maintaining sufficient liquidity for operating needs, maximizing earnings on investments within policy guidelines and efficiently processing daily transactions. AARP's Investment Team is seeking a Graduate Degree/MBA student as a summer intern to use newly acquired financial skills and apply them to the management of a multi-billion-dollar investment portfolio. The intern will provide quantitative, analytical, and research support in implementing investment strategies for the broad range of funds managed by AARP. Funds are managed for AARP, its affiliates, and benefit plans. This position works closely with and under the direction of the investment team and the Treasurer. This position works across a wide spectrum of asset classes and strategies, including public equity, fixed income, hedge funds, and private funds. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and investments, managing data, and thinking strategically. This paid internship will begin in Summer 2026 and may continue through August.

Responsibilities

The intern will have the opportunity to conduct research on a wide variety of topics, including market trends, asset allocation strategies, investment risk management, investment workflow automation, and specific investment managers and funds, to help the investment team build effective investment portfolios.

  • Research market trends as well as specific investment trends and strategies
  • Attend investment manager due diligence meetings and prepare meeting materials ahead of meetings
  • Conduct analytics and prepare summaries to support investment decisions
  • Assist in drafting and improving investment and risk reports
  • Assist in investment operations, including preparing documents for audit, cash reconciliation, etc

Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Investment, Statistics, or a related discipline, and completion of one year of an accredited MBA or Graduate degree program with a concentration in Finance, Economics, Investment, or Statistics
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of management, as well as with internal and external stakeholders
  • Attention to detail, ability to work both independently and collaboratively, self-motivated problem solver, with strengths in planning, monitoring, organizing resources, and flexibility in meeting changing priorities
  • Investment and data analytical skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Project and personnel management skills

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
