About arenaflex

arenaflex is a nationally recognized institution dedicated to advancing agricultural science, environmental stewardship, and community outreach. As a land‑grant university‑style organization, we blend cutting‑edge research with practical solutions that protect our region’s economy, ecosystems, and way of life. Our mission is rooted in service, collaboration, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge that benefits both local stakeholders and a global audience. Join a vibrant community of scholars, extension specialists, and public‑service professionals who are passionate about making a tangible difference.

Position Summary

We are seeking enthusiastic, detail‑oriented individuals to join the arenaflex College of Agricultural Sciences’ call‑center team that supports the statewide response to the invasive Spotted Lanternfly (SLF) quarantine. As a Part‑Time Customer Service Representative, you will be the first point of contact for citizens, growers, and partner agencies reporting sightings or requesting guidance. This role blends high‑volume call handling, resource navigation, and collaborative problem‑solving to protect agriculture, commerce, and natural resources across the Commonwealth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Front‑Line Contact: Answer inbound calls, emails, video‑conferences, and mailed inquiries from a diverse public audience, providing timely, accurate information about SLF identification, reporting procedures, and management resources.
  • Information Routing: Assess each inquiry, deliver appropriate guidance, and refer complex or specialized requests to the relevant internal departments, extension educators, or external partners such as the Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture.
  • Data Capture & Reporting: Log all interactions in the arenaflex reporting system, ensuring that data on sightings, concerns, and trends are accurately recorded for analysis and decision‑making.
  • Resource Promotion: Direct callers to fact sheets, LearnNow videos, short courses, and other educational tools; assist users in navigating the arenaflex online portal to locate the most relevant resources.
  • Problem Resolution: Investigate unusual reports, coordinate follow‑up actions, and collaborate with subject‑matter experts to resolve stakeholder issues effectively.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain a professional, courteous call center environment; adhere to scripts, compliance standards, and best‑practice communication guidelines.
  • Continuous Learning: Participate in training sessions to build foundational knowledge of Spotted Lanternfly biology, lifecycle, and control methods.
  • Team Collaboration: Support the SLF Call Center Manager and fellow agents, sharing insights and suggestions to improve service delivery and stakeholder satisfaction.

Essential Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in customer service, call‑center operations, sales, client management, or related fields.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Spanish is highly valued.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities with a proven track record of building effective relationships with diverse audiences.
  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple inquiries simultaneously, and maintain a sense of urgency without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel; comfort with web‑based CRM or ticketing systems is a plus.
  • Basic familiarity with entomology, invasive species management, or agricultural extension services is desired but not mandatory.
  • Eligibility to undergo a background check consistent with arenaflex employment policies.
  • Availability to work the call‑center schedule (8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday‑Friday) during the active SLF season (spring through late fall).

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Previous experience in a government‑affiliated or nonprofit outreach program.
  • Knowledge of USDA or state‑level agricultural regulations.
  • Experience with video‑conference platforms (Zoom, Teams) and handling multimodal communications.
  • Ability to quickly learn and convey scientific information to non‑technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability initiatives.

What You’ll Gain – Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

At arenaflex, we view every role as a stepping stone toward greater professional impact. As a call‑center agent you will:

  • Develop expertise in invasive species management, a niche skill set prized by agricultural agencies and environmental NGOs.
  • Network with leading entomologists, extension educators, and policy makers, opening doors to future research or field‑based positions.
  • Access continuous training modules, webinars, and mentorship programs that enhance both technical and soft‑skill competencies.
  • Earn eligibility for internal mobility programs that can transition you into full‑time roles in outreach, program coordination, or research administration.
