And we do all of this as a certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB). VCI is currently seeking a Cost Estimator for a remote work-from-home position. Job Description: This position is responsible for providing construction cost estimating support to VCI’s capital projects for Federal agencies during design and construction phases. The ideal candidate would be someone who has specialized experience in cost estimating on construction projects ranging in construction budget from $1M to $30M,. Engineers, architect, or construction manager who have performed cost estimating duties are encouraged to apply as well. Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of construction cost estimating principles and the ability to develop cost estimates from detailed drawings, specifications, sketches, narrative descriptions, Request for Information (RFI) responses, supplemental instruction packages, or other available information.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and perform accurate quantity take offs independently
  • Capability to independently develop accurate construction cost estimates using project information such as:

1. Scopes of work and construction documents (drawings and specifications) 2. Federal agencies – especially US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) - standards 3. Standards of estimating published by AACEi 4. Gordian RS Means Data 5. Vendor quotes 6. Market research including labor market, local market conditions, material availability and pricing 7. Published economic data including but not limited to employment, prevailing wages, escalation

  • The estimator shall be proficient in the following Software:

1. Bluebeam Revu for quantity takeoffs 2. Microsoft Excel for developing the estimate 3. Other Microsoft Software - Word, Teams, Outlook.

  • Ability to perform take-offs and estimate costs for labor, equipment, and materials and apply appropriate overhead and profit markups consistent with client regulations, the region, and market or industry trends. This requires general familiarity with the trades and related engineering fields, including civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
  • Developing, maintaining, updating, and analyzing cost for internal design and construction efforts and reviewing and analyzing cost provided by construction contractors as an Owner’s Representative on behalf of the Client or Government.
  • Performing investigation or market study via telephone, internet, or other means to determine appropriate pricing for specialty services or construction not typically found in estimating guides to support development of estimates for proposed changes, analysis of contractor proposals, and/or development of pre-negotiation objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Revit, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Micro-Computer Aided Cost Estimating System (MCACES)
  • Microsoft Project (MS Project) or Primavera P6
  • Knowledge of governmental contracting procedures, guidelines and public law

Communication, Language, and Software Skills

  • Possess communication, Language, and Software Skills with the ability to utilize a variety of software programs to monitor, update, and produce work products by applying knowledge of computer literacy.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu.
  • Ability to exercise good interpersonal skills.

Education, Certifications, Affiliation

  • Shall possess a degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with a specialty in Estimating or evidence of three (3) years of construction estimating work experience and knowledge to compensate for absence of higher education.
  • Preferred Certifications: Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or Certified Cost Professional (CCP).

Salary: $75K-$120K per year. Salary will be highly dependent on demonstrated, verifiable and relevant experience and possession of key credentials.
