Job description: DESCRIPTION: AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a program designed to give the necessary support to students, particularly those in the academic middle, so that they can attend college and achieve their fullest potential. It also serves students who may be the first in their families to potentially attend college. The AVID program serves to support its students by teaching and reinforcing study and organizational skills, encouraging students to take more rigorous and challenging classes, providing skills necessary to succeed in college, and ultimately preparing them for success at a four-year university/college. Position will be at Prairie View High School.
SALARY: Classified Grade G, $16.46 per hour, up to 29 hours per week, working 3 days per week, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. 9 month position. Not eligible for benefits.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Support students with college preparatory skills through the AVID tutorial process
- Model and reinforce study and organizational skills
- Encourage students to take more challenging and rigorous classes
- Facilitate small group tutorial sessions
- Enrolled in college or a college degree with a GPA of 2.5 or above.
- Basic technical skills
- Must be able to pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
- Possess personal attributes of integrity and respect for others as well as ability to work effectively in collaborative teams and serve as a mentor for high school students.
- Willing to participate in training, coaching, and debriefing in inquiry and the tutorial process by AVID trained site personnel.
