Responsibilities include but are not limited to: working with student(s) who require more individualized attention and/or assistance during occupational therapy activities. As the E-NET Tutor, you contribute to this mission by assisting students individually and in small groups. You will work as part of a team of serving 8,000 students and 18 campuses across Helena. To become part of this dedicated team, you need:
  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • 2 + years' experience working with students with a variety of disabilities; and working knowledge of Occupational Therapy;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District.
Essential functions of the position include the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds without a reasonable accommodation. Entry level salary range is $17.20 to $19.44 per hour depending on applicable relevant work experience as determined by the District and includes a comprehensive benefit package including coverage during the summer break. Position Title: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) Department: Student Services/Special Education Reports To: Administrator Date: March 2013 SUMMARY: Provides therapeutic activities under supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist (OT). Assists registered OT with treatment planning to support stated Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals. Records attendance and documents individual therapy activities daily. This position presently supports students in 17 school sites. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned. Observes students informally in the school setting. Implements and supports IEP goals Assist with program development. Classroom seating and positioning. Staff training and education in all areas. Independent reasoning using current guidelines for OT therapeutic intervention standards of practice. Behavior management skills for working with students age 3 to 20. Skill assessment using assessment tools (depending on experience) to be interpreted and evaluated by the supervising OT. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Some supervision of students when providing direct therapy or when the Teacher or Para Educator is temporarily absent. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Successful applicant must have completed the academic requirements of an educational program for Occupational Therapy Assistant that is accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education or predecessor organization: CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess current NBCOT provider certification. Must possess a current State of Montana Occupational Therapy Assistant license. Must possess a valid Montana drivers’ license with acceptable driving record and history. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents, customers/clients, employees of the district and members of general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to operate a personal computer, apply computer knowledge and operate common photocopiers. Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, peers, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
