The National Zoning Atlas, online at , is a project of the Legal Constructs Lab at Cornell University College of Architecture, Art, and Planning to create a national database documenting the zoning codes of every jurisdiction across the country. This project aims to depict key aspects of zoning codes in an online, user-friendly map and provide a consistent platform for research teams to add and update information on each zoning district as data is collected. Most geospatial data is being collected by decentralized project teams, but it needs to be cleaned and verified before inclusion into the National Zoning Atlas. Additional geospatial data is being collected by the National Zoning Atlas team.
Position Description
The Legal Constructs Lab invites applications for a geospatial analyst position beginning as soon as August 24, 2023, or as soon as the position is filled. The successful candidate will assist with the creation of the National Zoning Atlas, working under the supervision of the Project Coordinator (Geospatial), and will be responsible for:
- Contributing to the completion of the National Zoning Atlas by collecting, cleaning, and merging geospatial files, and inputting clean files into a standardized database
- Coordinating data collection, cleaning, and merging with external research teams contributing geospatial information
- Assisting with the execution of research projects and reports using collected data
- Documenting and analyzing data findings
- Collaborating with principal investigator, project coordinators, and other staff of the Legal Constructs Lab in development of project reports and publications
- Participating in the development of coding schemes to perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis
- Conducting accuracy checks on collected data
- Facilitating efficient management of data and record-keeping systems for collected information
