Title: Athlete Support Specialist (part-time; 2023-24 academic year)
Description: Reporting to the Director of the Student Success Center, the Athlete Support Specialist serves on the Student Success team and provides academic support and coaching for student-athletes. The primary responsibility for this position is to ensure successful academic performance, retention and graduation of the College?s 350+ student-athletes. This includes working with new student-athletes as they are transitioning into college, providing ongoing academic coaching and support to student-athletes, helping students who are no longer athletes transition off the team and get re-connected at Hartwick, and assisting athletic coaches in the coordination of the athletics study hall program and other team driven academic programs and strategies. This position works within the Student Success Center team and serves as a liaison to Hartwick College Athletics. This is a part-time position (up to 24 hours per week) for the 2023-24 academic year.
Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with athletic coaches, implements academic support to include academic and career counseling for student-athletes; individual and team study sessions; tutoring services; interventions through the early alert system; and conducts transition coaching for students who are leaving athletic teams and need to find new connections at Hartwick.
- Assists in planning and implementing orientation and preseason orientation activities for student-athletes.
- Works with Student Success Team to develop and implement academic support programs and services in such areas as study skills, time management, life skills and career planning.
- Lead sessions with prospective athletes to explain the academic programs at Hartwick.
- Serves as a liaison to ensure collaboration between Student Success and Athletics.
- Participate and be a presence at athletic events throughout each semester.
- Participate in significant campus activities including Welcome Weekend, TrueBlue Weekend, and Commencement Weekend.
- Comply with all applicable College, Federal, State, local and associational laws, rules, and regulations.
- As a representative of the College, comport oneself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus.
- Maintain good customer service standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Clean driving record and a valid driver?s license.
- Willing to work on a flexible schedule, Wednesday ? Sunday, 20-24 hours per week.
- Experience and knowledge of working with student-athletes to improve academic performance.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and policies related to academic eligibility.
- Individual advising or counseling of students (high school or college).
- Ability to work in partnership with colleagues and faculty.
- Strong writing and verbal skills.
- Commitment to working with diverse individuals.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, as well as Google Drive/Documents.
