Job title: Lecturer of Economics/Undergraduate Coordinator Company: University of Maine Job description: b Statement of the Job /b ">Statement of the Job: The School of Economics seeks a lecturer and undergraduate program coordinator. The lecturer position is a 9-month academic year appointment with teaching, advising, and mentoring duties. By serving as undergraduate program coordinator, the individual will also take on administrative duties for which they will receive additional commensurate compensation beyond their base salary. We are seeking a vibrant, enthusiastic individual with strong teaching and organizational skills who is committed to fostering an inclusive environment for undergraduate economics education and who is excited to help shape the future of our undergraduate programs. Responsibilities: Lecturer responsibilities include teaching several economics courses per academic year; advising and mentoring undergraduate students; supervising and mentoring undergraduate students in internships; and staying current in teaching methods and the economic discipline. Initial teaching duties are likely to include introductory and intermediate micro-economics and macro-economics. The SOE undergraduate program coordinator responsibilities will include organizing SOE participation in recruiting and admission events, developing and implementing recruitment and retention plans, serving as program contact, managing program curricula, and coordinating assessment of program learning outcomes. This person is expected to work closely with the SOE Director, SOE faculty, and the academic administrative personnel of the College.   • Master's degree or higher (e.g., M.A./M.S., Ph.D.) in economics or related field
  • Strong potential for or a record of excellence in teaching undergraduate economics courses
  • Ability to advise and mentor students
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) the use of instructional technology and online teaching tools
  • Commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the discipline and institution
  • Commitment to professional development and collegiality
Preferred:
  • Record of teaching online, hybrid, or other distance education platforms
  • Experience mentoring and advising undergraduates
  • Record of scholarship associated with teaching
  • Experience developing course content and structure
  • Experience teaching multiple types of economics courses (micro-economics, macro-economics, field courses)
