Job description: The Position
The part-time Child Care Teacher plans, organizes, and participates in a variety of educational and socialization activities for the City's After School Child Care and Tiny Tot programs; provides instruction and direction for enrollees; and performs related work as required.
The Child Care Teacher should have knowledge of child development and related activities; behavior management methods for children; food and nutrition for children; state and local regulations for licensed child care facilities; basic principles of supervision and training. The Child Care Teacher should have the skills and abilities to check activities, inspect facilities and equipment for safety; perform a wide variety of teaching and caregiving for children; analyze problems/situations and take appropriate action in accordance with applicable policies and procedures; understand and carry out oral written instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective relationships; meet the public and their children with courtesy and tact; maintain appropriate records. Requires occasional physical effort including walking, running, bending, stooping, climbing, carrying and/or lifting children, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School graduation or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Twelve (12) college units in Child Development, of which (6) units must be in Early Child Education
- Certification by either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association in Child/Infant CPR
- Certification by the American Red Cross in First Aid
- Valid Class C California's Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required and a condition of continuing employment
