Job title: Special Education Job Coach Company: Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Job description: Reports to: Campus Administration and Dept. of Special Education Coordinator Pay Grade: M 3 Grade(s) / Level: N/A Days/Dates: 260 (08/15/2018 - 08/14/2019) PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide general assistance to teachers and students by arranging and supporting student employment in the community. This includes supporting students on campus in areas that support job development skills and supporting them on campus at various places of employment. Part of the expectations include going out into the community to build partnerships with local businesses to support jobs for special needs students. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 48 college hours or have met formal academic assessment as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • Knowledge of CPR and other basic first aid techniques
  • Valid Texas driver?s license with driving record that meets District requirements
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Must possess a basic understanding of the job market as it relates to students with disabilities.
  • Specialized knowledge pertaining to job training and development.
  • Ability to interact with and relate to children.
  • Ability to exercise judgment in handling student disciplinary problems and in assessing students? skill levels.
  • Must demonstrate the belief that all students can work.
  • Must have personal transportation and be able to use it on the job (does not include transporting students).
  • Must be able to work flexible hours; some evenings, weekends and/or summer hours will be required.
Experience: One or more years working with people who have disabilities (three years preferred); experience in job training and development. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1. Develop, identify and analyze jobs and adapt job stations for students in supported employment positions. 2. Identify and solve potential problems for the student, employer or co-workers in supported employment positions. 3. Document student progress on a regular basis and maintain written records regards student job performance. 4. Assist and train students to obtain and use various forms of transportation to and from the job. 5. Assist in matching students to appropriate jobs. 6. Assist in developing job leads and opportunities. 7. Serve as an advocate for students with disabilities, including help to problem solve any possible issues between a student and employer. 8. Provide behavioral intervention for students as necessary. 9. Collaborate with the teacher on an individual child?s special needs. 10. Serve as an instructional aide in classrooms on the regular campus. 11. Must communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, community agencies and employers. 12. Must represent the district in a professional manner using both verbal and written skills. 13. Coordinate with campus and district staff on a weekly basis to appropriately flex the correct schedule, and communicate that schedule in an effective way. 13. Performs other duties as may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: While performing these duties, the employee is required to travel extensively in the local area and will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
