Job title: Sign Language Interpreter - Part Time Company: Orland School District 135 Job description: Supervisor: Principal / Assistant Principal/Director and Assistant Director of Special Education Work Year: School Year from 9:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. This position is supporting a student on a 1:1 basis. Summary: Under the general supervision of the building administrator and Director of Special Education, provide communication access to students who are deaf or hard of hearing by faithfully and accurately representing the classroom instruction, teacher/student dialogue, and relevant sound information in the mode of communication used by the student. Qualifications / Experience

• ISBE Interpreters - Sign Language approval
• Previous experience providing interpretation services for school age students in an educational setting, preferred.

Responsibilities * Interpret as indicated in an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for hearing impaired students.

• Interpret for hearing impaired students in counseling and discipline situations.
• Assist diagnostic personnel in communication with hearing impaired students during evaluation situations.
• Assist in effecting communication between regular education teachers and special program personnel.
• Maintain a notebook of vocabulary and assignments to be available to substitute interpreters.
• Participate in staff development to support the role of interpreter or school/district initiatives, as needed.
• Perform other related duties as may be assigned by building administration and Director of Special Education.
