Job description: Provide social services and assistance within the school environment to improve the social and psychological functioning of children
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate accurate, up-to-date knowledge of content and Illinois State Standards
- Participate in building level Learning Center team meetings to assist with creating plans for individual students
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for legal action
- Provide appropriate IEP related services based on assessed social/emotional needs. Provide professional social work assessments and evaluations as outlined in IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act)
- Identify, coordinate and make referrals to community resources for students, families and school programs
- Provide individual and group counseling with students when appropriate to do so in an educational setting and as time permits
- Maintain social work records; coordinate and document transfer of due process and social work records
- Letters of application
- Recommendations and/or references
- Ability to work as a team member, previous experience with elementary children, and a behavioral specialist background are preferred
- Applicants must hold a Master of Social Work Degree and valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Social Worker endorsement.
- The ability to speak a foreign language is preferred.
- Past experience servicing the specific area will be considered first. If no previous teaching experience in the specific area, recent coursework or student teaching in the subject will be considered.
