Conservation Associate (2 year Term)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conservation Project Delivery
  • Conduct outreach and technical assistance to private landowners, Tribal communities, and veterans to encourage participation in voluntary land preservation and conservation programs.
  • Support landowners in the conservation easement application process, including coordination with attorneys, appraisers, and technical consultants.
  • Assist with heirs’ property resolution, landowner appraisals, and resilience-focused land protection strategies.
  • Community & Tribal Engagement
  • Facilitate meetings with county leaders, Tribal governments, and conservation partners to advance collaborative conservation and resilience planning.
  • Represent Working Lands Trust at stakeholder and community events across Robeson, Hoke, Scotland, Cumberland, Onslow, Wayne, and Johnston counties.
  • Project Management & Reporting
  • Track metrics related to outreach, landowner enrollment, and conservation easements.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure timely submission of required reports to funders.
  • Collaborate with the Grant Manager to align technical progress with financial and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, environmental science, forestry, or related field.
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in conservation project management, land trust operations, or community-based environmental work.
  • Knowledge of conservation easements, landowner engagement, and climate resilience strategies.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work independently and in diverse community settings.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within Eastern NC counties.
