About the Role

We are seeking a highly strategic Classification Strategy Consultant to partner with a premier University client. This engagement is purely advisory and strategic in nature, focusing on methodology, standards, and framework development. In this role, you will provide critical strategic and technical guidance in the development, refinement, and modernization of the University’s HR classification framework, compensation alignment approach, and related policies and procedures. Scope of Services As the Classification Strategy Consultant, you will:

  • Advise on the development and refinement of a comprehensive job classification structure, including job families, levels, and titling conventions.
  • Provide expert guidance on classification methodologies, establishing clear evaluation factors and leveling criteria.
  • Review existing classification and compensation practices, delivering strategic recommendations aligned with industry standards and public sector best practices.
  • Assist in drafting policy language, procedural frameworks, and guidance documents related to position classification, job description standards, and reclassification processes.
  • Conduct technical reviews of proposed job structures and individual classification decisions.
  • Support HR leadership in establishing sustainable processes and governance for maintaining the classification structure long-term.
  • Participate in meetings with HR leadership and designated stakeholders to ensure alignment and project success.

Expected Deliverables

  • A finalized, recommended classification structure and framework.
  • Comprehensive written policy and procedural guidance documents.
  • Custom templates and tools to support future classification decisions.
  • Advisory memoranda and summary reports detailing strategic insights.
  • Active participation in scheduled meetings and review sessions.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an HR Consultant, Compensation Analyst, or Organizational Design Specialist.
  • Deep expertise in job architecture, framework development, and compensation alignment.
  • Prior experience advising higher education or public sector clients is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills for policy and procedure documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and advisory capabilities.
