Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

About the position This position is part of the Bridgestone Retail Operations (BSRO) Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team which is responsible for strategically developing, implementing and promoting programs across a portfolio of 2,200+ retails stores in the United States that align with global and regional safety and environmental stewardship goals as part of a company-wide culture of compliance and performance. This position is responsible for supporting EHS activities and tasks would include supporting strategic environmental initiatives and programs, providing technical support for management systems and databases, and supporting internal and external communications. This role will manage compliance tasks and provide store support and vendor management for programs such as waste management, recycling, materials management and compliance reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute environmental programs, policies, and procedures to align compliance with federal, state, local and site permit and regulatory requirements.
  • Support BSRO EHS strategic planning, procedure and program development by identifying field concerns, gaps, and corrective action opportunities.
  • Provide technical support for environmental management systems, program development and implementation through data management and visualization of internal and external regulatory and operational data.
  • Interface with internal business functions such as tax, real estate, and facilities management to address environmental compliance issues at BSRO stores.
  • Liaison with BSRO stores and regulatory agencies to address environmental findings and gaps identified through self-audit or regulatory inspections.
  • Maintain compliance calendar, recurring compliance database (i.e., permit applications, fees, reporting, etc.), manage routine and non-routine environmental documentation and compose communications to corporate and regulatory agencies.
  • Support BSRO stores with day-to-day needs including vendor scheduling, consultant support, materials management (i.e., delivery, storage, disposal), waste management programs, spill response, etc.
  • Monitor pending environmental legislation, as applicable to BSRO.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and compose correspondence relative to assigned program areas.
  • Conduct store visits to coach store managers, area managers, or areas with high violation rates.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in an open and collaborative manner with others a cross multiple business functions and external stakeholders such as vendors and regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrate sound business judgment and the ability to grasp the complexities of a large business organization and the application of legal and regulatory requirements to the organization.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Advanced Data management and visualization skills and experience with data tools such as Excel pivot tables, PowerBI, Tableau, etc.
  • Organizational skills with strong attention to details and accuracy.
  • BSRO and Bridgestone Global use Microsoft Office
  • Work from the Nashville office according to company policy. Current requirement is a hybrid model requiring 3 set days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and 2 flexible days either remote or office (Monday, Friday).
  • Anticipate 1-2 domestic trips per quarter.
  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree and preferred 5-8 years of experience in environmental, health and safety (EHS) or retail/automotive operations.
