We are a team of culturally fluent strategists, creatives, designers and producers pushing the limits of possibility. Together we champion creativity and build thoughtful experiences and content that solve business problems and bring brands to life. We are seeking an Art Director to join our team on a monthly retainer who brings both strong design fundamentals and a clear point of view. This person will act as a visual leader across a wide range of projects, helping establish mood, aesthetic direction, and design systems from pitch through production. The role spans graphic and spatial design and requires expertise in typography, layout, photo editing, and environmental/ experiential design. We value individuals who stay engaged with shifts in culture, design, and technology and can translate inspiration into compelling visual identities and experiences. Additionally, this role will positively contribute to making Invisible North’s culture an envy of the industry, a studio that turns out jaw dropping creative and design and does so by upholding an inclusive, flexible, and giving work environment. While our main office is located in DUMBO Brooklyn, we work as a distributed team with members reaching from Maine to LA, and everywhere in between. NYC residents would be expected to work from the office at least once per week. There is a possibility that this role could convert to full time but that is not a guarantee. Roles + Responsibilities

  • Concepting & brainstorming for proposals
  • Deck creation showcasing creative development for active projects & proposals
  • Owning multiple full project scopes from initial concept through execution
  • Sourcing imagery to create mood boards and create a visual identity to projects
  • Creating 2D and/or 3D designs plus overseeing more junior level designers depending on project scope
  • Collaborating with & managing other designers / copywriters throughout design process
  • Working with a larger team of producers and strategists to meet client goals, and lead from design standpoint
  • Presenting design ideas directly to clients
  • Communicating with fabricators and producers to ensure designed elements are produced with integrity and according to budget
  • Overseeing the creation of production and mechanical files for print and scenic elements
  • Sourcing props / rentals / decor
  • Managing onsite installation alongside production team Skills + Qualifications
  • 4+ years experience at an agency or in-house with a focus on spatial or environmental graphic design
  • Ability to work in 2D and/or 3D
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace (especially Slides), Ai design software (Midjourney, Higgsfield, etc). Experience with 3D design software (Sketchup, Enscape, C4D, etc) is a bonus
  • Experience in creating production and mechanical files for print and scenic elements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental/Exhibition Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Interior Design or related field
  • Extremely organized & excellent time management
  • Able to successfully work remotely during EST hours, or from our NYC office if desired
  • Able to travel to project locations and the IN Office as needed
  • Availability to work occasional weekends and evenings as needed for specific projects (and to be made up with compensatory time off)

Compensation

Monthly Fee $10,000 - $12,500
