Position Overview

arenaflex is seeking a highly experienced Principal Data Engineer to lead the design, development, and execution of advanced data analytics and data science initiatives. This part‑time, remote position is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives on solving complex data problems, mentoring technical teams, and influencing enterprise‑wide data strategy. You will partner closely with data scientists, business analysts, platform engineers, and IT specialists to build robust, scalable, and secure data pipelines that power critical business insights across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, coach, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of data engineers and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning, best‑practice sharing, and technical excellence.
  • Strategic Road‑Mapping: Define and drive the long‑term vision for data analytics and data science, aligning technical road‑maps with arenaflex’s broader business objectives.
  • Architecture & Design: Design modular, secure, and highly performant data architectures that integrate seamlessly with existing platforms, ensuring data is discoverable, reusable, and governed.
  • Implementation & Delivery: Oversee end‑to‑end development of data pipelines, from ingestion through transformation to visualization, leveraging cloud services such as Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, and Power BI.
  • Quality Assurance: Establish rigorous testing frameworks, automated validation, and monitoring processes to guarantee data integrity, reliability, and compliance.
  • Data Modeling & Visualization: Create sophisticated data models and reporting structures that enable self‑service analytics and empower business stakeholders to make data‑driven decisions.
  • Tool & Technology Evaluation: Assess emerging data technologies, recommend adoption strategies, and lead proof‑of‑concept initiatives that keep arenaflex at the forefront of industry innovation.
  • Collaboration: Work hand‑in‑hand with data scientists, product owners, platform engineers, and security teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet performance, scalability, and governance requirements.
  • Process Optimization: Identify bottlene‑bottlenecks in existing data workflows, implement automation, and drive operational efficiencies across the data lifecycle.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Produce clear, comprehensive documentation for data pipelines, schemas, and analytical solutions, and lead technical forums, lunch‑and‑learn sessions, and community of practice gatherings.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of hands‑on experience in data analytics, data engineering, or related fields, with a proven track record of delivering large‑scale data solutions.
  • At least 5 years in a senior or lead role, demonstrating the ability to guide and manage high‑performing technical teams.
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud), specifically with services such as Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and Power BI.
  • Deep expertise in modern data stack technologies, including Lakehouse architecture, Delta Lake, DBT, and NoSQL solutions.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, with the ability to craft complex queries across relational and semi‑structured data sources.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or R, and familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., Azure Machine Learning, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining high‑throughput, low‑latency data pipelines that handle streaming and batch workloads.
  • Solid understanding of data governance, security, and compliance best practices, with experience implementing data quality frameworks.
