Oil & Gas Engineer I
KLJ is an engineering company focusing on infrastructure and mechanical systems in the oil and gas sector. As an Oil & Gas Engineer I, you will support the design and execution of midstream pipeline projects, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and innovative solutions.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and design of pipeline alignment sheets, including construction access, route review, permitting, HDD crossings, stormwater BMPs, and related pipeline facilities
- Support regulatory compliance and planning, including SPCC plans, facility response plans, jurisdictional determinations, and as-built records compilation
- Support development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and P&IDs
- Perform hydraulic calculations, line sizing, pipe material grade and wall thickness selection, and Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) calculations
- Support production for development of design drawings including 30%, 60%, 90% and Issued for Bid (IFB) and Issued for Construction (IFC)
- Participate in site evaluations and assessments to determine feasibility and design requirements
- Conduct field inspections for regulatory compliance including field notes for report development
- Assist with as-built data collection and records verification to support retrofit and expansion projects
- Prepare and review technical documents including drawings, reports, and specifications using engineering software and CAD tools
- Generate accurate documentation and field notes to support project execution and compliance
- Coordinate with civil, mechanical, structural, environmental, and electrical teams to ensure integrated design solutions
- Ensure designs align with industry codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Support project teams with scheduling, reporting, and client communication throughout the project lifecycle
- Follow and promote safety procedures across office and field environments
Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience (internships absolutely count—we're not gatekeeping here)
- Foundational knowledge of engineering principles related to infrastructure and/or mechanical systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Exposure to oil & gas projects or related infrastructure (pipelines, facilities, well sites)
- Familiarity with CAD/design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SolidWorks, etc.)
- Understanding of applicable codes, regulations, and compliance standards
- EIT certification or progress toward licensure
