[Remote] Engineering Team Lead (Mobile)

Topstep is a company focused on building innovative trading solutions, and they are seeking an Engineering Team Lead to manage a team of mobile engineers. In this hands-on leadership role, you will be responsible for developing their mobile trading platform using React Native while mentoring your team and collaborating with various departments to enhance mobile experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team of mobile engineers building React Native applications across iOS and Android
  • Remain deeply hands-on in development, contributing directly to architecture, implementation, code reviews, debugging, and releases
  • Partner with product, design, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality mobile experiences aligned with business priorities
  • Help establish scalable mobile engineering practices including component patterns, testing strategies, release processes, and code quality standards
  • Own delivery execution for the mobile team, balancing speed, quality, and technical sustainability
  • Coach and mentor engineers through regular feedback, career development conversations, and technical guidance
  • Support hiring efforts and help grow the mobile engineering organization over time
  • Contribute to technical direction for React Native architecture, state management, API integration patterns, and application performance
  • Help create a strong engineering culture focused on collaboration, ownership, continuous improvement, and customer impact
  • Drive operational excellence around mobile releases, monitoring, crash reporting, and production support
  • Collaborate across teams to advocate for mobile-first thinking and ensure backend/platform decisions support mobile scalability and performance

Skills

  • 5 + years of professional software engineering experience with significant experience building production mobile applications
  • 1-2 years of direct engineering management or team leadership experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with React Native and modern mobile application development practices
  • Strong TypeScript and JavaScript fundamentals, including React patterns, hooks, component composition, and state management
  • Strong database fundamentals, including experience with PostgreSQL or SQL Server-schema design, migrations, indexing, and query optimization
  • Experience shipping and maintaining applications in both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store
  • Experience integrating APIs using GraphQL, Apollo Client, REST, or similar technologies
  • Familiarity with mobile architecture concepts including navigation, state management, reusable components, and performance optimization
  • Experience with mobile testing strategies including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
  • Understanding of mobile CI/CD workflows, release management, TestFlight, and Play Store deployment processes
  • Comfortable balancing technical leadership with people leadership responsibilities
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and design teams
  • Ability to provide clear technical direction while remaining pragmatic and delivery-focused
  • Experience participating in hiring, interviewing, onboarding, or team growth initiatives
  • Experience building fintech, trading, or real-time data applications
  • Familiarity with WebSockets, GraphQL subscriptions, or other real-time communication technologies
  • Experience with native iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin) development
  • Familiarity with crash reporting and observability tooling such as Sentry or Crashlytics
  • Experience with mobile analytics, feature flags, or remote configuration platforms
  • Exposure to mobile security best practices including secure authentication and token storage
  • Experience building reusable component libraries or contributing to design systems
  • Prior experience helping scale engineering teams or processes in a high-growth environment
