[Remote] Substation Project Manager

Insight Global is seeking an experienced Substation Project Manager to support large-scale renewable energy infrastructure projects, focusing on high-voltage substation design, engineering, and execution. This role involves managing projects from preconstruction through commissioning, ensuring successful delivery across scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
Responsibilities
- Lead the full lifecycle of high-voltage substation projects (typically tied to solar, wind, or BESS developments), from planning and design through construction and commissioning
- Manage project scope, schedule, and budget while ensuring alignment with client objectives and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), and subcontractors
- Oversee the development and review of Substation design packages (physical and protection & controls)
- One-lines, relay settings, and equipment specification
- Drive procurement strategy and long-lead equipment coordination (transformers, breakers, switchgear)
- Lead project meetings, track milestones, and proactively mitigate risks and delays
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE standards, and utility interconnection requirements
- Support construction execution, including field coordination, issue resolution, and quality control
- Oversee testing, commissioning, and system energization activities
- Manage client communication, reporting, and stakeholder alignment throughout project lifecycle
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering
- 7+ years of experience in substation design and engineering, specifically supporting high-voltage substation projects
- Strong understanding of substation layouts, grounding, and protection systems
- High-voltage equipment (transformers, breakers, relays, switchgear)
- Experience working across project lifecycle phases (design → construction → commissioning → closeout)
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and drive projects forward in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in Project Engineering and/or Project Management, with a strong bias for action and ownership mindset
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in a related discipline
- Experience supporting renewable energy, utility, or transmission & distribution projects
