Why arenaflex?

arenaflex is a global leader in health‑focused retail and digital pharmacy services, serving millions of customers each day through a seamless blend of brick‑and‑mortar locations and cutting‑edge online platforms. With a heritage of more than a century in community health, arenaflex is on a mission to improve lives by delivering innovative, data‑driven solutions that empower patients, providers, and pharmaceutical partners alike. Our Real‑World Evidence (RWE) team sits at the heart of this transformation, turning complex health data into actionable insights that shape the future of clinical research, drug development, and patient care.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Remote Real‑World Evidence Data Scientist to join our Scientific Affairs division. In this role, you will lead the design, execution, and communication of advanced analytics projects that leverage real‑world data (RWD) from diverse sources—including electronic health records, claims databases, and patient registries—to answer critical business questions for biopharma partners. Reporting to the Director of Clinical Data Science, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to build robust analytical pipelines, develop predictive models, and deliver clear, data‑driven recommendations that influence therapeutic strategy and market access decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Extract, clean, and transform raw data sets into standardized, analysis‑ready patient cohorts using SQL, Python, or R.
  • Partner with clinical trial stakeholders, epidemiologists, and biopharma clients to define analytical objectives and translate business needs into technical specifications.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis, statistical testing, and machine‑learning modeling to uncover insights on unmet medical needs, treatment effectiveness, safety profiles, and health‑economic outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized data lake that supports scalable analytics and promotes data sharing across the organization.
  • Design and implement reproducible statistical workflows—including generalized linear models, survival analysis, clustering, and time‑series methods—ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and regulatory standards.
  • Create interactive dashboards and visual reports using Tableau, Power BI, or Spotfire to communicate findings to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Lead due‑diligence assessments of new real‑world data sources, evaluating data quality, completeness, and relevance for downstream research projects.
  • Support the continuous improvement of arenaflex’s analytics platform by integrating emerging tools, automating routine processes, and championing best practices in data governance.
  • Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, including protocol development, sample size calculations, and Bayesian modeling approaches.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet the highest standards of scientific rigor, clarity, and interpretability, fostering trust with internal teams and external partners.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field).
  • Minimum of four years of hands‑on experience in a quantitative or computational role, with a proven track record of delivering data‑driven solutions in healthcare or life‑sciences environments.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language—R, Python, or SQL—and the ability to write clean, efficient code for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and executing robust statistical analyses for epidemiologic and observational studies, including familiarity with GLMs, classification, decision trees, unsupervised learning, and survival analysis.
  • Experience handling large, heterogeneous data sets from multiple sources (e.g., EMR, claims, registries) and applying data‑quality checks, normalization, and integration techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare data standards and vocabularies (e.g., ICD‑9/10, SNOMED CT, LOINC, Read Codes) and the ability to work with protected health information (PHI) in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Hands‑on experience with business‑intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, or Spotfire for creating compelling visualizations and dashboards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or advanced degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Deep familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems, health‑IT platforms, and large‑scale claims databases.
  • Experience with real‑world evidence generation for regulatory submissions, including knowledge of ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR, and other compliance frameworks.
  • Background in experimental design, Bayesian modeling, sequential analysis, and advanced computational statistics.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional projects, mentor junior analysts, and communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines for predictive modeling, natural language processing of clinical notes, and AI‑driven drug safety monitoring.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to apply rigorous statistical methods and maintain reproducibility throughout the analytical lifecycle.
  • Problem‑Solving Mindset: Proactive approach to identifying business challenges and crafting data‑centric solutions.
  • Communication Excellence: Strong written and verbal skills for translating technical results into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working in a remote, matrixed environment with scientists, clinicians, product managers, and external partners.
  • Technical Agility: Quick learner of new tools, platforms, and emerging methodologies in the fast‑evolving health‑data landscape.
  • Ethical Stewardship: Commitment to data privacy, security, and ethical use of patient information.
