As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be at the heart of our data ecosystem, designing, building, and maintaining robust, secure, and scalable data pipelines that power critical business functions—from product design and inventory management to finance, marketing, and AI‑driven insights. Your work will directly influence the quality of data that drives strategic decisions across the company, making you a pivotal contributor to arenaflex’s continued growth and innovation.

Role Overview

This remote position is based in the United States and offers a full‑time commitment to a high‑impact team that handles the integrated data platform for arenaflex’s flagship products. You will collaborate closely with software development engineers, data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders across multiple verticals to translate complex business requirements into elegant, production‑grade data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Architecture: Design, develop, and maintain end‑to‑end ETL/ELT pipelines using a blend of arenaflex cloud services (arenaflex Redshift, arenaflex S3, arenaflex Glue, arenaflex EMR, arenaflex Kinesis, arenaflex Firehose, arenaflex Lambda) and on‑premise technologies.
  • Requirement Gathering: Partner with business owners in domains such as Memberships, Sales, Inventory, Finance, Product, and Marketing to capture detailed data ingestion requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Implement rigorous data validation, cleansing, and monitoring frameworks to ensure high data integrity, compliance, and security across all pipelines.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously profile, tune, and refactor pipelines for cost‑efficiency, low latency, and high throughput, leveraging best practices in distributed computing.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, and mentor junior engineers on data engineering best practices, fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging data technologies, evaluate their applicability, and propose enhancements that keep arenaflex at the forefront of data engineering.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Produce clear technical documentation, data dictionaries, and runbooks to support cross‑team knowledge transfer and operational resilience.

A Day in the Life

  • Kick off the morning with a stand‑up meeting, aligning with product managers and data scientists on upcoming data ingestion priorities.
  • Analyze and refine business requirements for a new sales‑forecasting pipeline, ensuring alignment with compliance and security policies.
  • Write and test scalable Spark jobs on arenaflex EMR, ingesting terabytes of raw transaction data from arenaflex S3 buckets.
  • Deploy a serverless data transformation using arenaflex Lambda, reducing processing time by 30%.
  • Perform a comprehensive code audit, providing actionable feedback to peers and updating the team’s ETL style guide.
  • Collaborate with the security team to implement fine‑grained arenaflex IAM policies, safeguarding sensitive financial data.
  • Wrap up the day by documenting pipeline architecture changes in Confluence and preparing a brief for the next sprint planning session.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of building and maintaining production‑grade data pipelines.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and relational database concepts, including query optimization and schema design.
  • Hands‑on experience with data modeling, warehousing, and ETL tools, preferably within a cloud environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting, managing priorities and delivering results without direct supervision.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience with arenaflex cloud services such as arenaflex Redshift, arenaflex S3, arenaflex Glue, arenaflex EMR, arenaflex Kinesis, arenaflex Firehose, arenaflex Lambda, and arenaflex IAM.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language—Python, Java, Scala, or Node.js—for building data processing applications.
  • Familiarity with non‑relational data stores (object storage, key‑value stores, graph databases, or columnar databases).
  • Exposure to machine learning pipelines, data science workflows, or AI model serving environments.
  • Certifications related to cloud data engineering or big data (e.g., arenaflex Certified Data Engineer).

Core Competencies

  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to dissect complex problems, identify root causes, and devise data‑centric solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Clear articulation of technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Collaboration: Proven teamwork across distributed, cross‑functional groups, fostering trust and shared ownership.
  • Adaptability: Quick learner who thrives in fast‑changing environments and can pivot priorities as business needs evolve.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to data accuracy, security, and compliance in every line of code.
