[Remote] Director, Linear Media Buyer — Political and Public Affairs

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Techne is seeking an expert Linear Media Buyer to join their political advertising team in preparation for the 2026 election cycle. This leadership role involves managing large-scale broadcast and cable buys across various political races, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with campaign managers and political directors.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and place broadcast TV and cable buys across multiple markets and races simultaneously, from exploratory to full flight
  • Manage all aspects of the buy cycle: avails, negotiation, placement, affidavits, makegoods, and post-buy analysis
  • Track political windows and comply with BCRA lowest unit rate (LUR) requirements
  • Coordinate with station traffic departments to ensure accurate copy rotation, flight dates, and preemption management
  • Monitor delivery against GRPs, impressions, and budget targets; identify and resolve shortfalls proactively
  • Maintain precise buy documentation and reconcile invoices against affidavits
  • Work directly with political directors, campaign managers, and outside consultants on strategy, market selection, and scheduling
  • Manage multiple simultaneous races without dropping balls on any of them

Skills

  • 3+ years of linear media buying experience, with direct experience on political campaigns (federal or major statewide preferred)
  • Deep familiarity with political broadcast windows, LUR rules, and FCC equal-time requirements
  • Proficiency with media buying platforms and traffic systems (Strata, Matrix, FreeWheel, Wide Orbit, or equivalent)
  • Comfort reading and reconciling affidavits and post-buy reports
  • Strong market knowledge across major and secondary U.S. DMAs
  • Ability to manage high-pressure deadlines across multiple races simultaneously
  • Strong negotiation skills and existing rep relationships
  • Experience on presidential, gubernatorial, or U.S. Senate races
  • Familiarity with cable network political clearances and NCC/Ampersand/interconnect buying
  • Understanding of how linear buys complement paid digital strategy
  • Experience working within or alongside a media agency (not just in-house)
