Role Overview

arenaflex is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our fast‑growing Data Platform Team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain ultra‑low‑latency data pipelines and lakehouse architectures that enable data scientists, analysts, and product engineers to access reliable, real‑time insights at massive scale. You will work closely with cross‑functional partners to translate business requirements into robust data solutions, champion best practices in data engineering, and mentor junior engineers as they grow their technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Modeling & Architecture: Design and evolve highly performant, low‑latency data models and storage schemas that serve both analytical and operational workloads across arenaflex’s product ecosystem.
• Real‑Time Data Processing: Build streaming pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver event‑level data within seconds of occurrence, ensuring downstream services receive accurate, up‑to‑date information.
• Lakehouse Management: Own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of data in our lakehouse, including ingestion, cataloging, partitioning, and governance, while maintaining strict SLAs for availability and durability.
• Infrastructure as Code: Develop and maintain IaC templates (Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi) that provision data services, enabling rapid, repeatable deployments for engineering teams.
• Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks, implement indexing strategies, and fine‑tune query performance to support petabyte‑scale workloads with sub‑second latency.
• Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner with product managers, data scientists, and backend engineers to understand data needs; coach junior engineers on best practices, code reviews, and design patterns.
• Tooling & Automation: Contribute to internal data tooling, such as data quality dashboards, monitoring alerts, and self‑service data access portals, to improve overall developer productivity.
• Cloud Services Development: Extend arenaflex’s data platform on AWS (or comparable cloud providers) by building scalable services, managing security controls, and ensuring cost‑effective resource utilization.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 3+ years of professional experience designing and operating large‑scale data pipelines in a production environment.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Scala, or Java, with a strong emphasis on clean, maintainable code.
• Hands‑on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and writing complex SQL queries, including window functions and CTEs.
• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain APIs and micro‑services that expose data to downstream consumers.
• Solid understanding of data lakehouse concepts, including partitioning, schema evolution, and ACID compliance.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and familiarity with services such as S3, Redshift, Athena, Kinesis, and EMR.
