Key Responsibilities

As our ideal Staff Accountant Bookkeeper, you'll be responsible for a wide range of financial tasks that are critical to our business operations. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the design and setup of our Job Cost Accounting System to ensure accurate and efficient financial management.
  • Recording all day-to-day financial transactions accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Processing Accounts Receivable and Payable efficiently, ensuring timely and accurate financial transactions.
  • Monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts to ensure accuracy and detect any discrepancies.
  • Monitoring and reviewing financial transactions to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Filing Sales tax returns promptly and ensuring compliance with State, Federal, and local rules and regulations.
  • Preparing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management, providing insights and analysis to inform business decisions.
  • Processing payroll efficiently and collaborating with our Payroll company to integrate with our Accounting System.
  • Managing insurance policies and coordinating annual audits of those policies to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Maintaining effective communication with management, staff, vendors, and occasionally, clients, to ensure seamless financial operations.
  • Ensuring that accounting, budget, and audit controls and systems are in compliance with State, Federal, and local rules and regulations.
  • Creating and maintaining employee personnel files in accordance with company and legal requirements, and providing HR operational support when needed.

Qualifications and Skills To be successful in this role, you'll need to possess a strong foundation in accounting and bookkeeping, as well as excellent organizational and communication skills. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A BS/Associate Degree in Accounting, or a related field such as Business, Math, or Economics.
  • A successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and excellent data entry skills.
  • Proficiency in payroll accounting and strong knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Experience with bookkeeping and accounting software, particularly QuickBooks Online and/or desktop.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • A BS in Business, Accounting, Math, or Economics.
  • Experience with accounting software and systems, particularly QuickBooks Online.
  • A proven track record of success in a similar accounting or bookkeeping role.
