Experiential Learning Librarian
The University of Minnesota Law Library invites applications from experienced, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individuals for a newly-created Experiential Learning Librarian position. The Experiential Learning Librarian will play a critical role in serving the Law School community, particularly the faculty and students participating in the Law School’s experiential education courses and practical training programs, which consistently rank amongst the strongest in the nation, and recently received an A+ grade from the National Jurist. The Experiential Learning Librarian will report to the Associate Director for Research Services. Professional librarians are members of the Law Library Faculty and are hired under the University of Minnesota Academic Professional and Administrative (P&A) employee classification system, which may lead to promotion and continuous appointment based on successful fulfillment of job responsibilities, scholarship, and professional service.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Experiential Learning Librarian will be to integrate into and collaborate with the Law School’s Clinics, Moot courts, Centers and Institutes, and other experiential education programs, such as Law in Practice, Legal Writing, Field Placements and Residencies, and Judicial Clerkships. Primary responsibilities will include: developing strong professional partnerships with Law faculty and students participating in the Law School’s experiential education courses and practical training programs; providing formal and informal instruction; offering research expertise and support; and designing customized services, as needed. Additional responsibilities include: participating in first-year legal research instruction; providing reference services on a limited basis; and creating research guides tailored to experiential education courses and practical training programs. As a professional librarian, this position also engages in research and scholarship relevant to law librarianship, legal education, and/or substantive legal subjects; participates in professional service activities; represents the Law Library at the campus, regional, and national levels; and performs other duties as assigned.
