Description The California Department Public Health is seeking to hire one student for their Tuberculosis Control Branch. The Student Intern will support the Resources, Planning, and Management section of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Tuberculosis Control Branch. This role will involve assisting in the development and improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and workflows for various operational processes.

Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. Prerequisites Must be a student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. Majors/Fields of Study Public Health, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Health Administration, Health Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, Infectious Diseases and Immunity, and Global Health Work Schedule Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer). Minimum Qualifications • Currently enrolled in a relevant academic program, such as public health, health administration, or a related field. • Strong organizational and time management skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Preferred Qualifications • Familiarity with documenting operational processes. • Familiarity with Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. • Interest in public health. • Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities • Research and analyze existing procedures and workflows. • Identify opportunities for improvement and standardization. • Draft clear, concise, and accurate Standard Office Procedures (SOPs) using established templates and guidelines. • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and completeness of SOPs. • Map out current workflows to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies. • Design and implement improved workflows to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. • Develop visual representations of workflows, such as flowcharts or diagrams. • Organize and maintain a centralized repository of SOPs and workflows. • Ensure that all documents are up-to-date and easily accessible. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation. Working Conditions Work is performed in a hybrid environment. • Students/Employees will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI Work from Home Agreement. The decision to permit an employee to work from home is at the discretion of the supervisor or employer and may, at any time and with or without cause, unilaterally terminate the option to work from home.
