Job title: CIG Unit Research and Project Management Intern in New York City, NY at City of New York Company: City of New York Job description: Job DescriptionThe Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) is dedicated to strengthening New York City's vibrant cultural life by providing funding and support to New York City's cultural community, including the 34 institutions that comprise the Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) and more than 1,000 non-profit cultural organizations that receive annual support. This constituency represents a diverse array of organizations - including performing arts groups, museums, theaters, zoos, botanical gardens, visual arts and film centers, community-based organizations, and arts education programs - that are central to the life of communities in every corner of New York City. DCLA also manages a significant portfolio of cultural capital projects; provides free donated materials and supplies for arts programs and arts educators through its Materials for the Arts program; provides capacity building and technical assistance support to cultural groups; and commissions works of permanent public art through the City's Public Art Program.The Cultural Institutions Unit facilitates the City's partnership with the 34-member Cultural Institutions Group (CIG). Members of the CIG are wholly independent not-for-profits that reside on City-owned property. Under a public-private partnership, CIG members receive an annual operating subsidy, energy subsidy, among other benefits and are governed by operating agreements, some dating back to the late nineteenth century and others as recent as 2020. The Unit maintains a working relationship with the CIG members attending board meetings, processing monthly payments, developing annual budgets, monitoring governance, policy, operations, and facilitating special budget and project initiatives. The Research and Project Mangement Intern will assist with the following projects:PROJECT 1 - CIG History & Future: Building off the CIG History Report commissioned in 2007 and looking ahead to the upcoming 150th Anniversary of the City/CIG partnership. Update the report to include key milestones in the past two decades, e.g. leadership changes, major events, financial impacts/growth, pandemic perspective, etc.PROJECT 2 - CIG Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) Report: Following up on the 2020 release of the initial DEI survey of CIG members, update DEI tracking and reporting submitted by each institution; compile a report highlighting key achievements, policy changes, etc. for DCLA internal review and broader CIG sharing of best practices.PROJECT 3 - Asset Management: In addition to the 34 CIG's there are an additional 14 cultural organizations under DCLA jurisdiction as members of the Energy Coalition (EC). Survey of CIG/EC for maintenance plans; survey of CIG/EC current facilities staffing; survey of CIG site plans.Fuel Tank Inventory project - update and build out an inventory of fuel storage tanks at properties in DCLA's portfolio; conduct research regarding fuel storage tanks, as needed.PROJECT 4 - FEMA Inventory Project: Gather information to build out an inventory of all types of FEMA-funded projects at sites under DCLA's jurisdiction. Review and gather information (from online records) to incorporate into a single file/database.Special Skills/ Area of Study:Highly organized with strong attention to detail Strong verbal and written communication/phone skills Solid computer, research and data collection skills including database/record creation.
