Here, you will make an impact by:
- Performing and guiding technical EHS activities resulting from approved self-initiated or assigned programs leading to innovative applications and extensions of existing or new programs/systems having major importance to the business within the assigned area of responsibility
- Assessing new and changing processes, equipment and chemistries for EHS risk and exposure assessments in research and development (R&D) environments
- Conducting incident investigations
- Establishing and cultivating an extensive network of support (facility, lab, manufacturing, engineering) to facilitate completion of assignments. Communicating project or program status and results to customers and management.
- Presenting EHS data and results and providing guidance to several layers of 3M employees and management, including senior leaders in R&D.
- Applying working knowledge of key corporate initiatives and appropriate tools to job function
- Providing EHS consulting services on new programs for assigned locations
- Coaching EHS team members and operational customers in EHS systems, processes and requirements
- Leading teams within the assigned business unit to share best practices and ensure completion of EHS assessments and solutions. Participating on cross-functional teams. Providing guidance and technical knowledge to new employees and others
- Contributing information to the technical strategic planning process
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Safety Engineering, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a Science discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years of combined manufacturing and/or lab experience in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) in a private, public, government or military environment.
- Master's degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Industrial Hygiene or related discipline from an accredited institution
- Professional certification(s) such as: Certified Safety Professional (CSP®), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or related professional certification(s) or current in process
- Experience working in a Research and Development (R&D) and/or R&D EHS environment
- Project management skills and ability to set objectives and deliver results
- Professional communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
- Demonstrated industrial hygiene and chemistry skills
- Demonstrated safety and/or environmental skills such as machine guarding
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with prioritization and organization skills
